What Is Pitfall II?

Pitfall II: Lost Caverns is a classic action-adventure game released in 1984 for the Atari 2600. The sequel was hard to play, memorable for its characters, and the technology with which it pushed the graphics to their limit at the time. The player controls Pitfall Harry-a dashing jungle explorer-who must traverse perilous terrain, hazards, and enemies to rescue his kidnapped sister.

How to Play?

In Pitfall II, you control Pitfall Harry with the joystick and buttons to jump, climb, and shoot arrows. The side-scrolling nature of the game requires you to finely navigate through jungles, caves, and ancient temples. You must face many types of enemies: snakes, crocodiles, and warriors, each requiring a strategy to defeat. Items are important for progressing in the game: arrows, hearts, and keys. You must avoid falling in pits, getting bitten by snakes, or being taken away by enemies.

Tips & Tricks

Learn to time your jumps perfectly. Falling into pits means instant death while some jumps require you to fall much less time.
Use arrows sparingly. They are your only means of remote attacks.
Collect everything. Hearts restore health, keys open doors, and other items possess some sort of positive benefit.
Plan your course well because the game does not hesitate to punish you for errors.

Pitfall II was published by Activision in 1984 for the Atari 2600. It was a worthy continuation of the original Pitfall!, possessing improved graphics, with more complex level designs, and an expanded roster of enemies.
