What is Rygar?

A classic action-adventure game for the NES, Rygar was created by Namco and launched in 1985. It is a side-scrolling beat 'em up with a twist in which Rygar, the protagonist, uses a giant sword to create whirlwinds, a process by which paths are cleared or enemies are defeated. It is famous for its difficult fighting, engrossing plot, and memorable boss battles. Set in the mythical land of Medusa, Rygar must free his homeland from the evil Medusa Warriors.

How to Play

You run Rygar as he accessed various levels filled with enemies, traps, and bosses. The core of gameplay has several key instances:

History

Rygar was developed by Namco Tokyo Studio and released in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is a sequel to the arcade game Rygar (1983), which introduced the whirlwind mechanic. It was praised for its innovative gameplay and memorable music and over time became a cult classic. It has been ported and remade for several platforms, including modern consoles as well as mobile devices.
