What Is UNO Online?

UNO Online is the digital incarnation of the classic card game, doing full justice to the fun of UNO in the browser. Faced with the computer or with friends or strangers online, all the twists and turns happen here: Placing +2s, reversing turns, and of course, the last card-precisely timed-ONE. This is the good old card game, now with the excitement of multiplayer action.

How to Play

The objective is simple: be the first player to discard all cards. Seven cards are dealt to each player to start. You discard cards by matching the color or number of the last card on the table. The numbered cards range from 1 to 9, and there are four colors: red, blue, green, and yellow, while the special cards shake up the game:

  • +2 Player Draw: The next player draws two cards and loses their turn.
  • Reverse: Changes the direction of the gameplay.
  • Jump Turn: Next player loses their turn.
  • Joker/Color Change: The user decides the color for all players to follow.
  • +3 Player Draw: The next player draws three cards; user decides the color.

If you are not able to play a card, you are to draw cards from the deck. The important rule states: Hit the ONE button when you only have one card left; otherwise, you will have to draw two penalty cards!

Tips and Tricks

  • Save wild cards for when you're in a pinch. They can help if you lack cards of the matching color or number.
  • Track what other players are doing. Try to guess their moves so you can counteract them.
  • Don't waste your +2s or +3s unless you really think you can push your opponent to a losing position.
  • Try to end the game rounds while holding high-value cards in your hand—really, the more points they hold, the better they'll be for you once your opponent wins the round.

History

UNO is the brainchild of Merle Robbins, an Ohio barber, who developed the game in 1971 to entertain his family. It was shared among Robbins' circle of close friends and relatives until International Games decided to represent the title for $50,000 in 1981. The rights were procured first by International Games and later by Mattel in 1993. Today, UNO Online presents itself as a grand avenue to take this classic game to a global audience.
