Q*bert: What Is It?

Qbert, originally released by Mattel in 1982, is a truly classic arcade game. It's a lively and fast-paced puzzle game with its main protagonist-the square-shaped Qbert-for whom you must guide along a challenging platform made up of lumpy triangular blocks. The main objective is to have all the lumps "hopped" on, while avoiding the dangers that lie in the creatures inhabiting the levels. Controls

The control system used for Qbert is basic and yet quite intricate. Using the joystick or the directional buttons, move Qbert in any one of the four directions. The main task is to stand on every block and scores points while avoiding Coily the Lizard and other enemies that will push Qbert right off the platforms. If Qbert does fall, you shall lose a life, but will be able to continue provided some lives are left.

Tips & Tricks

Stay on the Lumps: Keep an eye on where you are landing because hopping onto a lump a second time causes it to disappear. Make your move carefully.
Avoid the Enemies: Learn enemy patterns that include those of Coily the Lizard. In doing so, you can time your jumps perfectly and avoid imminent doom.
Collect Power-Ups: Levels may come with power-ups, such as ones for temporary invincibility or extra lives. Always watch out for them!

History

Alan Miller and Dan Gorrell developed Qbert while at Mattel Electronics. The game was meant to be simple but addictive, perfect for arcade play. This sequence of events spawned various sequels and adaptations for home consoles, mobile devices, and online alternatives. Qbert's design and music have made this game a living-gaming legend.
