1943: The Battle of Midway is an old-school venerable arcade shooter in which you find yourself in the cockpit of a fighter during one of the decisive battles of World War II. This particular hack has a neat feature in the gameplay: the battle is fought against the Japanese, and so the battle is seen from a fresh perspective. How to Play

Control a fighter plane in 1943: The Battle of Midway, shooting down enemy aircraft, battleships, and submarines. Arrow keys will move the plane left and right, while spacebar fires your guns. Work your way through power-ups, which make you stronger and help you survive longer. Great challenge with fair judgment; it fosters quick reflexes and thinking ahead.

History

The original 1943 arcade series was released in 1979, courtesy of the Japanese company Taito. Being an immediate hit of the time, thanks to addictive gameplay and the historical backdrop. This hacked version of the game is a famous one as it takes the classic formula and gives it a different spin by staging the battle against Japan, thereby giving a different flavor to the iconic battle. It's an undeniable testament to the franchise's viability and how arcade games can grow while still being faithful to their fundamental qualities.
