Donkey Kong (US set 1) - What is it?

Released by Nintendo in 1981, Donkey Kong is by far one of the much-celebrated arcade games of all time. Here we have a side-scrolling puzzle game involving Mario, an adorable Italian plumber, rescuing Pauline from Donkey Kong. I have to say that the ape boss of the game is very much iconic in its own right, along with the fact of being the perfect vehicle for the birth of the platformer genre. The US set one as a title stands out for its colorful graphics and unforgiving gameplay.

Gameplay

In Donkey Kong, the player must send Mario all over the various levels consisting of fast-paced platforms and hazards. The goal is to reach the top of each level to rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong. Mario can jump everywhere, climb up ladders, and avoid barrels thrown by the gorilla. The game ends if Mario gets hit by a barrel or falls off the screen.

Tips

Perfect your Jumps: Good jump timing is the one attribute that can ultimately save or end your life-gain experience; go and practice those jumps so you never miss.
