What is Galmedes (Japan)?

Galmedes is a classic arcade game created by Namco in 1983. The game was known for providing the unusual mix of action, strategy, and puzzle-solving. In a futuristic world setting, players control a robotic arm that has to defend the center core from waves of attacking aliens. The game is rather unique in design, providing a circular playing field with obstacles and power-ups scattered within, making it truly challenging and incredibly addictive. Gameplay Guide

In Galmedes, the player moves the robotic arm around the circular battlefield using a joystick. The player then shoots down the aliens to stop them from reaching the core while simultaneously destroying their bases for them to end their threat. The arm is capable of firing a laser beam, and power-ups are available to enhance the player's abilities, such as faster firing or longer reach. After a stage is completed, new ones will appear, each with new challenges and increased difficulty.
