What Is Prisonela MD?

Prisonela MD is a frantic retro platformer set in the mad world of prisons. Developed using the MD Engine by Two Black Cats, it channels the spirit of Genesis games but incorporates modern gameplay mechanics. The player is jailed in this dystopian society, where escape is tantamount to exiting a killer randomizer-type sequence of stages. The moment one dies, they are transported onto another stage that tests one's reflexes, quick thinking, and ability to disarm traps, evade guards, and save victims. If you love pixel art and keep-your-heart pounding action, then Prisonela MD is for you!

Gameplay

Prisonela MD is about precision and speed. Parkour away the prison corridors; jump over obstacles; slide below barriers; throw in some mid-air flips while on the go. Try to reach the exit of each level while evading traps, and guards. The game has no mercy; think even quicker and act faster. Collectables and power-ups aid you; however, they are scarce compared to the skill you gain using the core mechanics.

Tips and Tricks

Learn the levels: Each stage is random, but the patterns often repeat. Learn the layout so that you can anticipate danger.
Practice timing: Perfect timing is required for your jumps and slides. Use a few tries to get used to it.
Stay moving: Do not stop moving; traps and guards never relent.
Use the environment: Some can interact in their layout; use this to your advantage to get away quickly.

History

Prisonela MD was developed by Two Black Cats, an indie team with a passion for retro gaming. They crafted an experience that pays respect to the classic platformers while modernizing the challenge, using the MD Engine-the best tool for developing Sega Genesis-style games without coding. The game was first a web demo that offered 20 free levels and gained substantial popularity because of addictive gameplay and nostalgic looks. The full Steam release boasts more content, including a downloadable ROM to experience on retro hardware.
