What is Galaxian?

Galaxian is an old-school arcade shooter developed by Taito in 1979. Defending Earth from an alien invasion, with attractive graphics, good music, and a great variety of enemy ships-and thus a formidable challenge for any skilled gamer-it was perhaps the fastest-paced arcade favorite, which has set the tone for so many other space-shooting games.

Gameplay

The player controls a spaceship at the bottom of the screen and must shoot down waves of enemy alien ships that come from the top. It is separated into levels, and the difficulty goes up at each level. The player can collect power-ups and special weapons that will assist them in their objective. All alien ships have to be destroyed and Earth saved from invasion.

Tips and Tricks

Patterns: Study the patterns of the alien ships to anticipate their impending attacks.
Use Power-Ups: Only grab power-ups if you'll need them for an upcoming threat, and don't waste them on weaker foes.
Keep Moving: Do not hold a standstill; movement will dodge the attacks of your enemies.
Keep Practicing: The more you put in, the more familiar you'll become with enemy patterns and when to shoot.

History

Galaxian, having arrived upon the scene, was a true innovator. It offered engaging gameplay coupled with cutting-edge graphics and sound. Having some of the first detailed backgrounds along with animated characters, it brought forth an industry-wide revolution; with subsequent games and spin-offs, namely Galaga, it set space shooting into fashion.

Galaxian, a Japanese arcader, was made by Taito. It is a well-respected name in the industry and has carved a unique niche for itself, having contributed an unusual slant to arcade games with their creations such as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble.
