Definition of Tetris

The game is a puzzle classic that has fascinated gamers globally for more than two decades now. How to Play

The controls are pretty simple, so anyone of any age can start playing immediately. The arrows on the keyboard can be used to move the Tetriminos sideways-to-left and right. Otherwise, Tetriminos can be rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise using the up arrow. The down arrow key instantly brings the piece down. The major objective is to clear as many lines as possible before they pile up to the very first row on the screen, which would mean the game is over.

Tips and Tricks

Keep Your Options Open: Think two or three moves ahead whenever possible to set up opportunities to clear multiple lines simultaneously.
Use Hard Drop: The down arrow not only instructs a faster fall but also enables a more precise placement.
Clear Lines Strategically: Maximize the points earned by dropping and clearing multiple lines at once, thereby minimizing the number of falling pieces.
Don't Leave Gaps: Such gaps will quickly give irreversible headaches.

History

Tetris was created by Alexey Pajitnov, a Russian computer engineer, while he was working at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre of the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Moscow. The game was inspired by traditional games like "Pentominoes" and was initially designed for the IBM PC. The game grew popular rapidly and became one of the very few video games that crossed borders, thus attaining international recognition. Tetris has since been ported to almost every platform imaginable and has sold over 500 million copies, giving it the shaft for being the all-time greatest-best-selling video game.
