A brief intro: What is Sonic and Knuckles?

Sonic and Knuckles is a celebrated 1994 platform game by Sega, featuring the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog and his rival-turned-ally, Knuckles the Echidna. This game is unique in the Sonic series as it allows players to embark on separate adventures with each character to thwart the evil Dr. Robotnik’s plans. Sonic’s mission is to prevent the launch of the orbital weapon, the Death Egg, while Knuckles battles against Robotnik’s henchman, EggRobo.

Gameplay

Sonic & Knuckles keeps up the quick paced side scroller characteristic of previous series, with speedy dashes through terrain, grabbing of rings, and stomping simple enemies. Entrancingly different, you get to pick between Sonic or Knuckles right off the bat, who both feature varied strengths and abilities. Sonic will jump high and has shield powers, while Knuckles can glide and is able to climb, giving the two separate ways to go through the six large levels split into two acts each.

History

The storyline for Sonic & Knuckles starts as Sonic 3 was ending, with the Death Egg crashing down on Angel Island and rousing new conflicts between Sonic and Knuckles. The unfolding story leads to both characters realizing who their true antagonist is, culminating in a brief Hong Kong alliance against said enemy. The side of the story changes depending upon the character you play, so that each character has his/her/her perspective of the story, obviously pushing the replay value up.
